I don't know about "anarchist" methods destroying anything, but it is nice that they stand side by side with other methodologies. Creative destruction is cool, but so is mad diversity.

Anarchy exists in all manner of public spheres. I once heard a guy say "roadways are the last bastion of democracy in America", which made me giggle. Roadways have nothing to do with democracy, but they are a good example of motorists ignoring most of the rules and still getting from A to B in short order and very safely & reliably. In short, roadways are among the bastions of anarchy in America.

File-sharing and open source software - not to mention open source hardware, user-provided (found & created) content, OP biz models, etc. - Creative Commons & CopyLeft, exploitation of the Fair Use Doctrine & the Public Domain, Free Culture, and other late 20th & early 21st century phenom are examples of recent uses of ideas at least as old as Ben Franklin.

Co-ops & other co-operative models (like Par-Econ businesses) are other examples of free & voluntary association.

That said, the free market (often bashed by modern anarchists who confuse "free market" with "capitalism" - not to mention confuse "capitalism" with "corporatism", using the former term while describing the latter) is a rather splendid example of anarchy at it's best: Billions of individual minds making billions of individual decisions within a collective of billions of humans freely associating and exchanging goods, services, and ideas, purposefully and spontaneously creating & destroying & ebbing & flowing between the sub-collectives of their choice.

Damn. The chaos of uncontrolled & unregulated association is powerful, resilient, empowering, and downright thrilling.

Anarchy, my friends, is alive and well.

Books, books are small file size (compared to the amount of info in the torrent). The public library usually has fast connection rates (although usually on place to store info); a flash drive might be a way around this. Find a pamphlet on the net that you agree with or better yet make your own. “War is a racket” is a existing pamphlet, print a ton of copies at the library and hand out. As far as low income, my initial idea was to get inner city drug dealers to use the internet to go national or just avoid slinging on street corners (as this is already widely done, but mostly with research chems) however the potential of the internet to be a resource of income (bootleg, credit card scams, identity theft and many ways that are in more of a grey area legally). Awareness is what I’m all about at this point. It seems to me that if we give the population a concrete example of what it is like to participate in a truly decentralized system, they will themselves demand similar systems without ever associating this demand with "bomb throwing anarchists" or "revolution"(although “bomb throwing anarchist is one of my personal favorites). It is hard to keep a revolution vital and relevant, but evolution (or maturation if you prefer) is a natural process. I see this as an opportunity to avoid the rhetoric and go straight to the experience. Buying everyone a computer is not in my plan. To use existing systems to show that decentralization and free association works in the real world and that it already exists. My call to this forum is to help us to recognize what existing systems (not just technological ones) we may use to point towards true personal freedom (in my opinion “real” Anarchy). I do not say any of this in a confrontational manner; rather I would like to address each constructive criticism so that all our views and reasons for supporting anarchist views are continually expanded and deepened. This is my attempt to go from arm chair philosopher to street agitator. I don’t think we need to wake them up, only direct their sleep walk to self realization. When someone realizes they do not have to be a slave, they can never go back to work with the same fervor or acceptance of their condition. What happens when the worker no longer has to work to survive? Lets give them real life alternatives! (Sorry about the essay, but this is my passion).

I saw a post informing people that the documentary "Anarchary in America" was possibly available on the internet for free (which it is, thats where I saw it first). Which leads me to ask why more anarchist have not used the process of file sharing (bit torrents inparticular) to show people what a functioning anarchist fourm looks like in reality. I think of the ideas brought up in the movie "Steal this Film 2" and the fact that copyrighted material that maybe transfered to the internet almost immedately losses its ability to be comodified. Bit torrents in particular offer an existing pratical platform for experimentation of anarchist theories of free association (social/group interaction). Second Ii would like to propose that all anarchists promote bit torrents/ file sharing or any other existing platform for bypassing corporate or governmental filtering or "gate keeping" of information or products. This will also require us to sharpen our own views about artists being compensated for their work and the imagined fear of destroying existing media production methods (the movie industry is the one I hear most about). I would suggest handing out easy to use instructions on how to file share safely, tips for not being tracked, and what to look out for. The bit torrent entry for Wikipedia might be a good place to start, but I'm not sure how much info they may post as they may consider some info against the law (i.e. posting how to make a bomb). Anyway I would love to hear what other existing systems are out there that maybe used to "crash" the control network.
