Beat them daily and you'll have no worries.

Hahahaha!!!

Seriously, though..........I'm a dad. I can offer little to no meaningful advice, but I could probably write a book on the mistakes I've made. Unfortunately, the Little Bits don;t come with an instruction manual.....

being the parent of a 7 year old now, I can say that what we do is communicate clearly about consequences of actions. it's important to think ahead before doing a lot of things and to be aware that your actions may effect others. our son is doing a pretty great job so far in that department, as he's very concerned about the well-being of others in his daily actions.

clearly, as a parent, one has to lay down some rules. the important thing is to keep those rules centered around safety and basic civility toward others.

the downside, for us, is we don't have the luxury of private or home schooling, so a lot of our standards/rules have to be amended so that he can survive public school. that's tricky: prepping them for the "real world" of Normals.

Chomsky discussed that. He gave an example of if his granddaughter was about to run in the street, it isn't inappropriate to physically stop her.

Unfortunately, I think there are times when you have to intervene and stop your child from doing things which could kill him/her. Children cannot make an informed decision about drinking poison from under the sink. You will have to offer a guiding role and sometimes set boundaries and tell your child no, or physically stop them from running in front of cars.

I think there are definitely ways to raise a child with the maximum level of freedom and raising them to question authority and set their own destiny. Children should be encouraged to make their own decisions, with guidance, from a very early age. They should be taught that decisions have real world consequences, and I dont mean punishments but cause and effect. Children should be allowed to pursue their own interests and we should encourage their empowerment.

There are a lot of good books on Anarchist child rearing.

For those of you with children, how do you do it? I had a very authoritarian father, who used physical punnishment, and was the "because I say so type." I don't have children yet, but I will someday, and I want to raise a child in a non-oppressive mannor without them running wild.
